An AI product feed is structured catalogue data written so a machine can reliably identify a product, its price, availability, seller and destination page. The useful part is not the word AI. It is the discipline of giving every row unambiguous, current facts that can be checked against the shop.

Why this matters now

Natural-language shopping requests are usually specific: a shopper may ask for a navy size 10 running jacket under a fixed budget, available now. A vague title and a generic photo cannot carry that request alone. Clear attributes, variant relationships and truthful availability give a system something concrete to compare, while the merchant keeps control of what is sold.

What to check first

TitleSpecific product and meaningful variantRemove campaign language and add the differentiating attribute
DescriptionFactual, readable detailAdd material, dimensions or compatibility from the product record
AvailabilityMatches what can be sold nowCorrect the source stock state and refresh
A practical first-pass checklist. Your shop remains the source of truth for products, prices and stock.

A practical way to do it

  1. Write product titles for the item in front of you, including a meaningful variant where needed.
  2. Use plain-text descriptions that state material, size, use and limits rather than repeating sales slogans.
  3. Attach the image and URL for the exact variant where colour, size or bundle changes the offer.
  4. Keep price and stock controlled by the source shop, not by a manual feed edit.
  5. Review a small sample whenever a new platform, export or product type is introduced.

Common mistakes

  • Stuffing titles with search terms until the item becomes less clear to a buyer.
  • Sending an image of one colour with a row that describes another.
  • Assuming richer data means a platform will recommend or rank the product.

What this does not mean

A clean product feed makes your catalogue understandable to a receiving platform. It does not guarantee approval, inclusion, ranking, sales or a particular checkout experience. Those decisions and customer-facing flows remain with the platform and the merchant.

The useful habit is simple: correct the source data, then validate the exported feed. Do not patch a one-off file and assume the next shop sync will remember your fix. That is how a tidy launch turns into a slow drift a fortnight later.

Questions

Do I need AI-written descriptions?

No. Accurate product information is more useful than decorative copy.

Does an AI product feed replace a PIM?

Not necessarily. A feed distributes a selected set of product facts; a PIM may govern broader internal data.
